Not Much Disagreement Among Dems in First Presidential Primary Debate

The eight Democrats who are seeking their party’s 2008 presidential nomination met Thursday night for the first in a series of debates leading up to the first primary and caucus voting next January. They did not exhibit much disagreement and often criticized the Bush administration’s handling of the Iraq war and also defended their strategies for combating terrorism.

But what was perhaps most notable about the debate, which was held at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, was that recent events provided plenty of grist for candidates to expound on topics that otherwise might not have been addressed.
