Obama Criticizes Clinton's Drive to Win

By Dan Balz
Washington Post
Staff Writer Sunday, November 4, 2007; A05
Sen. Barack Obama leveled a fresh round of criticism at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday, accusing his rival for the Democratic nomination of following a campaign plan that prizes
calculation over candor and that is aimed more at winning the election than uniting the country.

Obama used a speech in Spartanburg, S.C., to sharpen his differences with the Democratic front-runner and to frame the choices before voters a year ahead of the 2008 election. Calling the senator from New York "a colleague and a friend," Obama nonetheless cast Clinton as representative of a style of politics that has been better for the politicians than the country.

Obama promises more open policy towards Cuba

MIAMI: US Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Saturday promised a more open policy towards Cuba at a packed campaign rally in Miami, the heart of the anti-Castro Cuban exile community.

"Just 90 miles from here there is a country where justice and freedom are out of reach," Obama told the cheering crowd packed into a city auditorium.

"That's why my policy toward Cuba will be guided by one word: Liberty." Obama heartily criticised US President George W Bush, who restricted travel to Cuba and money remittances to the island in 2004 with the goal of toppling the communist regime of President Fidel Castro.

Obama Raises at Least $32.5 Million

Sen. Barack Obama outraised Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton by $10 million in second-quarter contributions that can be spent on the Democratic presidential primary contest, aided by the contributions of 154,000 individual donors.

Obama's campaign on Sunday reported raising at least $31 million for the primary contest and an extra $1.5 million for the general election from April through June, a record for a Democratic candidate.

Clinton's campaign announced late Sunday that she had raised $21 million for the primary. With general election contributions added, aides said her total sum would be "in the range" of $27 million. Candidates can only use general election money if they win their party's nomination.

Obama sorry for D-Punjab memo

New Delhi: US Democratic presidential hopeful Barak Obama has finally admitted a big mistake, saying his campaign staff made a serious error in a memo questioning Hillary Clinton's ties with India and Indian Americans.

The memo had referred to Hillary Clinton as 'D-Punjab', a play on journalistic shorthand meant to suggest the Senator from New York was actually a Democrat representing the Indian state Punjab. The document referred to Hollary's investments in India and her fundraising among Indian-Americans.

Barack Obama and the First Presidential Debate

The press accounts of the performance of Senator Barack Obama in the first Presidential Debate at South Carolina State University give him high marks for staying in there with politicians who have been Senators or Governors for much longer.

In fact, one poll gave him the winner's edge over Hilary Clinton and the entire field. Nevertheless, he proved that despite the fact that he had not fielded complete positions on critical issues to high voting blocks like health care, social security and the like, he was able to answer crucial questions in a substantive manner equal to his colleagues that did him no harm.

The primary criticisms of the media were leveled at the fact that he did not appear presidential enough in his response to a question about Iraq that asked, if two American cities were attacked by Al Queda how he would change the military stance abroad to account for it. He was criticized as not being aggressive enough to say that he would attack and destroy the enemy and that he did not use his openings to reassure Jewish voters about his commitment to their issues.

Obama vows to 'turn the page' on Iraq

SAN DIEGO - Wooing influential California Democrats, presidential contender Barack Obama vowed to "turn the page on this Iraq disaster" while
Hillary Rodham Clinton denounced President Bush's conduct of the war as "one of the darkest blots on leadership we've ever had."

California, long a major cash source for candidates of both parties, is poised to become more influential in the electoral process as well, having moved its primary to next Feb. 5. As a result, the state Democratic weekend convention was expected to attract all the party's major presidential contenders except Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, who was campaigning in South Carolina.

In Iowa, Obama shedding the rock star dazzle

COLO , Iowa -- Senator Barack Obama is not big on what he calls red-meat applause lines when he campaigns in small communities like this one, 45 miles northeast of Des Moines. He does not tell many jokes. He talks in even, measured tones, and at times is so low-key that he lulls his audiences into long, if respectful, silences.

Obama likes to recount the chapters of his unusual life : growing up in Hawaii, living overseas, community organizing in Chicago, working in the Illinois Legislature, though not his years as a US senator.

Obama's online backers meet to forge offline force

By Chris Cillizza, Washington Post April 1, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Senator Barack Obama of Illinois rallied thousands of voters in cities and towns across the country yesterday, part of an effort to ensure that the surge of interest in his campaign will translate into an army of supporters when Democrats begin casting votes 10 months from now.

Obama's appearance at a public library, in Onawa , Iowa, was streamed on his campaign's website. Aides said the event was seen at 5,000 house parties in all 50 states, including gatherings in all 99 Iowa counties. Obama's wife, Michelle , watched from a house in Des Moines.

Obama Presses for Iraqi Reforms

By HENRY C. JACKSON
The Associated Press
Sunday, March 11, 2007; 7:25 AM

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Illinois Sen. Barack Obama on Saturday said the U.S. will have to withdraw its troops from Iraq, regardless of the costs, if serious reforms are not made by the Iraqi government.

"In the absence of those conditions we're just throwing money away," Obama said during a campaign stop in Dubuque.

"We have to be honest that, in the absence of these changes, if these changes aren't made, there is not much we can do" to help the Iraqi people, he added.

Owners Comments: I think all of the Democrat Canidate are now in complete agreement that we should "CUT AND RUN" in Iraq. It is easy to understand why the Terrorists were supporting Kerry in the last Presidential election and the Democrats in the 06 midterm elections. It's a farily safe bet that if one of these Democrat Frontrunners are actually elected President that Terrorism will return to American shores after Jan 20th 2009.

Barack Obama Pays Parking Tickets 17 Years Late

(AP) BOSTON Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama got more than an education when he attended Harvard Law School in the late 1980s. He also got a healthy stack of parking tickets, most of which he never paid.

The Illinois Senator shelled out $375 in January -- two weeks before he officially launched his presidential campaign -- to finally pay for 15 outstanding parking tickets and their associated late fees.

Owner Comments: Is this important? Hardly! Should we interpet this as a sign of the tone that this campaign is going to take. I think we should, nasty and mean.

Obama, Clintons converge at civil rights event

By John Whitesides,
Political Correspondent
Sun Mar 4, 2:04 AM ET

SELMA, Alabama (Reuters) - Democratic rivals Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton take their high-voltage fight for the White House to a hallowed symbol of the U.S. civil rights movement on Sunday.

The trio of political stars descends on the small town of Selma, Alabama, for a series of events commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the 1965 civil rights march, a historic milestone in the drive to end racial segregation in America's South.
Judging from the News Reports I fully expect to see Senator Clinton and Senator Obama facing off in the middle of the street with six shooters like something out of an old "B" western.

Robert D. Novak: Another Hillary defector

WASHINGTON – Greg Craig, a Washington super-lawyer with close ties to the Clintons, is supporting Sen. Barack Obama for President.

Craig was a White House special counsel defending President Bill Clinton in the Senate impeachment trial. A partner in the Williams & Connolly law firm founded by the legendary Edward Bennett Williams, Craig served as an adviser to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

In confirming to this column his Presidential preference, Craig called Obama unique and added: “I’ve never seen anyone who has made the impact on people and on me.” He said he was impressed with Obama when he first met him at the home of investment banker Vernon Jordan, an intimate friend and supporter of the Clintons.

It seems that quite a few of the Democrat power brokers are figuring out what many of us "regular" people in flyover country have known for a long time. Hillary Rodam Clinton has neither the popularity nor the personality of her husband.

Obama Ridicules Cheney's Iraq Comments

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama ridiculed Vice President Dick Cheney on Friday for saying Britain's decision to pull troops from Iraq is a good sign that fits with the strategy for stabilizing the country.

Obama, speaking at a massive outdoor rally in Austin, Texas, said British Prime Minister Tony Blair's decision this week to withdraw 1,600 troops is a recognition that Iraq's problems can't be solved militarily.

I guess Obama's ridicule is based on his years of military experience --------- NO, wait Obama never served in the military. Ok then they must be based on his years of political experience in the US Senate------------NO, wait Obama is a ROOKIE Senator. He has almost NO experience on the federal level. Then should we take it for granted that Obama's remarks are based on his POLITICAL BELIEFS and no valid foundation?

UPDATE: Maureen Dowd Column Incites Hillary-Obama War of Words

NEW YORK Maureen Dowd's column in The New York Times today, in which she quoted former Bill Clinton supporter David Geffen offering a few caustic comments, has incited a strong Hillary Clinton campaign attack on Geffen -- and the candidate he now favors, Sen. Barack Obama.

Then Obama's team fired back.

"Everybody in politics lies, but they [the Clintons] do it with such ease, it’s troubling,” Geffen had said. Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson released the following statement this morning: "While Senator Obama was denouncing slash and burn politics yesterday, his campaign's finance chair was viciously and personally attacking Senator Clinton and her husband.

It always amazes me when a "canidate" clamis that his/her opponent is using "Slash and Burn Politics" or the "Politics of Destruction" when they tell the TRUTH! Let me refresh your memory:

"I did not sleep with that Woman, Monica Lewinsky" --- Bill Clinton

I am no fan of the Clinton's or Obama but lets call a liar a liar. Yes, The Clinton's lie whenever the truth is "inconvenient" for them. Their supports recognize this fact, the press spent years complimenting them on their ability to lie.

Obama to Announce 2008 Plans in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Democratic Sen. Barack Obama plans to stand outside Illinois' Old State Capitol on Saturday, a building indelibly linked to Abraham Lincoln, and tell the world about his 2008 presidential plans.

In a video preview announcement on his presidential exploratory committee's Web site, Obama said he's humbled by the enormity of the task ahead and urged supporters to get involved. "Tomorrow, we begin a great journey. A journey to take our country back and fundamentally change the nature of our politics," Obama said.

Obama in campaign mode on a theme of 'hope'

Obama in campaign mode on a theme of 'hope'
Obama makes it his theme as he, others woo Dem activists
February 4, 2007
Sun-Times Columnist WASHINGTON--
On Saturday, Barack Obama "officially" kicks off his presidential quest in Springfield, followed by visits to Iowa and New Hampshire punctuated in between by a Chicago fund-raiser.

But, short of the formality and hullabaloo of an announcement in the city where Abraham Lincoln once lived, Obama is already in presidential campaign mode, with a theme that can be summed up in one word: "Hope."

Clinton, Obama fight for media coverage

WASHINGTON -

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will make her first trip to New Hampshire as a presidential candidate on Feb. 10, the same day Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama formally announces his candidacy.

Clinton had been scheduled to visit New Hampshire on Saturday and Sunday but canceled the trip because her husband's stepfather, Dick Kelley, was ill. Kelley, 91, died Wednesday in Arkansas.

Perception vs. reality

WASHINGTON - Although he frequently makes a point of finding something charitable to say about his opponents’ arguments, Sen. Barack Obama almost always ends up voting liberal.

“The arguments of liberals are more often grounded in reason and fact,” the Illinois Democrat wrote in “The Audacity of Hope,” a memoir published last year. “Much of what I absorbed from the sixties was filtered through my mother, who to the end of her life would proudly proclaim herself an unreconstructed liberal.”

Obama has a 95 percent liberal rating from Americans for Democratic Reform, a liberal advocacy group that ranks all members of Congress. Yet he is often portrayed as a centrist.
