A month after dropping his own bid for president, former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack will endorse Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Clinton’s campaign would not comment on the development, but people familiar with the situation confirmed it. The Clinton campaign also sent word Friday that the New York senator will be joined by “special guests” in Des Moines for a “major announcement” Monday.

Owner Comments: I am sure this will have a "Major" impact on the election. A canidate that dropped out of the 2008 Presidential race in March of 2007 because he was completely unknown and could not race any money endorses Hillary. Excuse me as I yawn.

Citing money woes, Vilsack drops out
Former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack, the first Democrat to announce his candidacy for the White House, abruptly dropped out of the 2008 presidential race yesterday, a victim of the prodigious fund-raising demands of an early-starting campaign and the star appeal of rivals Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a Democrat from New York, and Sen. Barack Obama, a Democrat from Illinois.
"This process has become to a great extent about money - a lot of money," Vilsack said at a news conference in Des Moines, Iowa, yesterday. "And it is clear to me that we would not be able to continue to raise money in the amounts necessary to sustain not just a campaign in Iowa and New Hampshire, but a campaign across this country. So it is money and only money that is the reason that we are leaving today."

The first casulty of the 2008 Presidential race bites the bullet in Feb 2007 --- almost a full year before the first primary. Govenor Vilsack who most people were unaware was a canidate drops out because he cant raise money. In spite of the fact that this guy in my opionon never had a chance to be elected or any business running for President, I think its a symptom of a much larger problem when a candidate cites money problems 11 months out from the first primary as the reason he drops out. We have allowed the Presidency to be an office only the very rich or candidates supported by the very rich can realistically seek. The obvious result of this is that the Commen man is eliminated from the mix and every single viable candidate "OWES" something to the money men.

Vilsack Campaign: Vilsack Winning 'Ideas Primary'
DES MOINES, IA - Yesterday, Democratic candidate for President Tom Vilsack continued to win the so-called 'Ideas Primary' when he unveiled a sweeping, ambitious plan to reduce carbon emissions 75% by 2050 and make America energy independent by increasing the domestic production of renewable fuels. Vilsack also vowed to run the first carbon neutral presidential campaign in American history. Vilsack's victories in the Ideas Primary stand in stark contrast to the "American Idol" stage of current news coverage of the current presidential cycle.
Vilsack's plan to protect America's energy security comes just 10 days after he became the first and only candidate for President to call on members of Congress to stop funding for the war in Iraq. Vilsack's bold energy security agenda was the subject of wide-ranging coverage in today's morning newspapers:

In Race for Iowa, Clinton Has to Make Up Ground
In Race for Iowa, Clinton Has to Make Up Ground
With Caucus a Year Away, Polls Show She's Behind in the State

DES MOINES, Jan. 26 -- When New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton arrives here for her first presidential campaign events this weekend, she will encounter unfamiliar terrain -- a landscape where she is not the perceived front-runner for the Democratic nomination.
Although Clinton appears formidable at the national level, she has not built up a lead in Iowa, home of the first caucuses of the 2008 campaign next January. Most recent polls of Iowa Democrats have shown former senator John Edwards of North Carolina in the lead, with Clinton in a pack that includes Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack.
"This is anyone's race to win, including obviously Governor Vilsack, who is very familiar with the landscape here," said newly elected Iowa Gov. Chet Culver (D), who met with Clinton shortly after she arrived Friday afternoon but who is remaining neutral. "That's the wonderful thing about the caucus process. The winner will have to earn it."
