WASHINGTON - Although he frequently makes a point of finding something charitable to say about his opponents’ arguments, Sen. Barack Obama almost always ends up voting liberal.
“The arguments of liberals are more often grounded in reason and fact,” the Illinois Democrat wrote in “The Audacity of Hope,” a memoir published last year. “Much of what I absorbed from the sixties was filtered through my mother, who to the end of her life would proudly proclaim herself an unreconstructed liberal.”
Obama has a 95 percent liberal rating from Americans for Democratic Reform, a liberal advocacy group that ranks all members of Congress. Yet he is often portrayed as a centrist.

Biden Unbound
Biden Unbound:
Lays Into Clinton, Obama, Edwards Loquacious Senator, Democratic Candidate on Hillary: ‘Four of 10 Is the Max You Can Get?’ Edwards ‘Doesn’t Know What He’s Talking About’
By Jason Horowitz
Senator Joseph Biden doesn’t think highly of the Iraq policies of some of the other Democrats who are running for President.
To hear him tell it, Hillary Clinton’s position is calibrated, confusing and “a very bad idea.” John Edwards doesn’t know what he’s talking about and is pushing a recipe for Armageddon in the Middle East. Barack Obama is offering charming but insubstantial fluff. And all of them are playing politics.

Can a past of Islam change the path to president for Obama?
WASHINGTON - Although Sen. Barack Obama is a Christian, his childhood and family connections to Islam are beginning to complicate his presidential ambitions.
The Illinois Democrat spent much of last week refuting unfounded reports that he had been educated in a madrassa, or radical Islamic school, when he lived in Indonesia as a boy.

HILL'S 'EVIL' JOKE ON HUBBY BUBBA
DAVENPORT, Iowa - Hillary Rodham Clinton left caucus-goers here yesterday believing that Bubba had given her a baptism by fire in how to deal with "evil and bad men."
Clinton's quip, made during a morning rally with about 500 Iowans, drew 31 seconds of straight laughter and applause that left little doubt among attendees that she'd made a joke at hubby Bill Clinton's expense.

WHEN Barack Obama, America’s newest presidential hopeful, was hit by allegations that he had attended a radical Islamic madrasah school as a boy in Indonesia, the claims spread like a virus through the media and internet.
It was a lie — the school was barely more religious than British church schools — but it was also a sign that Obama’s chances of winning the presidency depend to an unusual degree on his life story and character.

Preparations Set, Giuliani Faces a Choice
Preparations Set, Giuliani Faces a Choice
By SAM ROBERTS
Rudolph W. Giuliani, who developed a national reputation for decisive and reassuring leadership after 9/11, now faces the odd challenge of having to reassure some supporters that he can be decisive about a very different issue: running for president.
Even as his fellow Republican John McCain and fellow New Yorker Hillary Rodham Clinton have all but formally declared their candidacies, Mr. Giuliani has proceeded more cautiously.
Since last month, he has formed an exploratory committee, more aggressively recruited a campaign staff and moved to divest himself of one of his companies. And he is now visiting New Hampshire, home to the first primary, for the second time in three months. But he has studiously avoided making a public commitment to run.

DES MOINES, Jan. 26 -- When New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton arrives here for her first presidential campaign events this weekend, she will encounter unfamiliar terrain -- a landscape where she is not the perceived front-runner for the Democratic nomination.
Although Clinton appears formidable at the national level, she has not built up a lead in Iowa, home of the first caucuses of the 2008 campaign next January. Most recent polls of Iowa Democrats have shown former senator John Edwards of North Carolina in the lead, with Clinton in a pack that includes Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack.
"This is anyone's race to win, including obviously Governor Vilsack, who is very familiar with the landscape here," said newly elected Iowa Gov. Chet Culver (D), who met with Clinton shortly after she arrived Friday afternoon but who is remaining neutral. "That's the wonderful thing about the caucus process. The winner will have to earn it."

George Clooney calls him a friend. Halle Berry has said she'd "collect paper cups off the ground to make his pathway clear." Oprah Winfrey says he's her man.
And three of the most powerful men in Hollywood - Steven Spielberg, Jefrey Katzenberg and David Geffen - have just invited Democrats to a truly high-profile fundraiser: a Feb. 20 reception for Obama at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, with a dinner later at Geffen's home for top donors.

Obama Calls for Universal Health Care
By NEDRA PICKLER

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Every American should have health care coverage within six years, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said Thursday as he set an ambitious goal soon after jumping into the 2008 presidential race. "The time has come for universal health care in America,"Obama said at a conference of Families USA, a health care advocacy group. "I am absolutely determined that by the end of the first term of the next president, we should have universal health care in this country," the Illinois senator said. Big States’ Push for Earlier Vote Scrambles Race
Big States’ Push for Earlier Vote Scrambles Race
By ADAM NAGOURNEY
WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 — As many as four big states — California, Florida, Illinois and New Jersey — are likely to move up their 2008 presidential primaries to early next February, further upending an already unsettled nominating process and forcing candidates of both parties to rethink their campaign strategies, party officials said Wednesday.
The changes, which seem all but certain to be enacted by state legislatures, mean that the presidential candidates face the prospect of going immediately from an ordered series of early contests in relatively small states in January to a single-day, coast-to-coast battlefield in February, encompassing some of the most expensive advertising markets in the nation.

2008: Hillary vs McCain?
2008: Hillary vs McCain?
By TONY KARON
Hillary Clinton is the clear front-runner to win the Democratic party's nomination for President in 2008, but the Republican race will be a close contest between Senator John McCain and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani — with McCain edging Giuliani by a three- to four-point margin. And a presidential face-off between Clinton and McCain, right now, would be close to a dead heat. Those are some of the key findings of a new TIME poll earlier this week that canvassed a random sample of 1,064 registered voters by phone.
Despite the buzz generated by Senator Barack Obama entering the race, the survey found that Senator Clinton would beat him for the Democratic nomination by a margin of 40% to 21%. Senator John Edwards is a distant third with 11%. Obama clearly suffers a disadvantage in profile among likely voters, with only 51% indicating that they knew enough about him to form an opinion, compared with 94% saying the same of Hillary Clinton. In Obama's favor, however, is his far lower negative ratings. While 58% of voters familiar with Hillary Clinton have a positive view of her, 41% give her negative marks, for a net favorability score of +17. By contrast, Obama's net favorability score is +47. On the Republican side, Giuliani has a net favorability rating of +68, with only 14% having a negative view of him. McCain's net favorability score is +45.

Obama: Name Not an Advantage in Campaign
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. Barack Obama doesn't think name recognition is necessarily a plus as he seeks the Democratic Party presidential nomination in 2008.
"When your name is Barack Obama, you're always an underdog in political races. That's how it was when I ran for the United States Senate," Obama said Wednesday.
"That's how it will be this time," he said on ABC's "Good Morning America."
But Obama, who has formed a presidential exploratory committee, also said he believes "I've got something unique to offer."

Cheney says Clinton not good for president
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday said Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton would not make a good president -- because she is a Democrat.
The New York senator and former first lady is hoping to be the first American woman to become president, competing in a field of at least eight candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for 2008 election.
Cheney, asked in an interview on CNN whether Clinton would make a good president, replied, "No, I don't."

If you read the article you can't help but notice that it is severly slanted. The Headline says "Cheney SAYS" when you read the article you discovered that Vice President Cheney was ASKED if he thought Hillary would be a good President.
Why not? "Because she's a Democrat. I don't agree with her philosophically and from a policy standpoint."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the Democrats' losing presidential candidate in 2004, said Wednesday that he won't run for the White House again in 2008.
"Two years ago, I sought the presidency to lead us on a different course," he said on the Senate floor. "We came close ... certainly close enough to be tempted to try again. There are powerful reasons to want to continue that fight now. But I have concluded this isn't the time for me to mount a presidential campaign."

Tom Tancredo's Unsavory Backers
With the announcement of the formation of Tom Tancredo's exploratory committee, Congressman Tancredo has announced his intention to take his anti-immigration show on the road nationally. As a result of that, some folks are taking a closer look at exactly who pays Tancredo's tab, and the result isn't pretty. The American Spectator has a piece today which reads, in part:
In fact, it's not clear Tancredo is in line with the mainstream, social conservative wing of the GOP he seeks to align himself with. According to campaign finance reports, one of Tancredo's biggest financial backers has been the family of Dr. John Tanton, the founder of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). Wall Street Journal editorial-page features writer Jason Riley wrote a devastating piece about the organization back in 2004, in which the group's pro-abortion and pro-eugenics roots were revealed.

Sen. Hillary Clinton declared this weekend, " I'm in to win." Anyone who has watched her remarkable trajectory can have no doubt that she'll do whatever it takes to win the presidency. I wish she felt the same way about the war.
In fairness, Clinton, with her proposal for arbitrary caps on troop levels and hemming and hawing about her vote for the war resolution, has company on both sides of the aisle. Sen. Joseph Lieberman is the only national Democrat showing any courage on this issue. We Republicans -- with help from senators such as Chuck Hagel -- seem ready to race the Democrats to the bottom.

"We recognize a tragedy of life in Roe v. Wade, but that tragedy will not always stand," Brownback told thousands of cheering abortion foes at an afternoon rally.

Florida is like an ATM for presidential candidates.
They frequently drop into the state to pick up cash but rarely spend time with the state's voters during the party primary election season.
Florida money pays for television commercials on Boston stations to air in New Hampshire, campaign staff in Iowa, polling in South Carolina and all of the other accouterments of the modern political campaign. But Florida voters have not had much of a say in picking presidential nominees because the state's primary election often occurs after the choice is all but made.

Candidates expected to shun public funding
Candidates expected to shun public funding
By DAN MORAIN
Los Angeles Times
For the first time since the United States launched its grand experiment with publicly financed presidential campaigns, three decades ago, major party nominees in 2008 are expected to turn down all public funds.
The reason: the grant, expected to be $83.8 million, might not be enough to run a winning campaign.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., is the first top-tier candidate to tip her hand that she intends to leave the public money on the table. Senior Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson said in an e-mail Sunday that she would not take matching funds in the primary or the general election campaigns if she won the Democratic nomination.

Clinton's camp fires first salvo
Clinton's camp fires first salvo
BY GLENN THRUSHWASHINGTON BUREAU
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's pollster fired an opening salvo at Sen. Barack Obama and John Edwards yesterday, claiming their campaigns are "stalled or falling" -- and suggesting Obama isn't tough enough to withstand GOP attacks in 2008.
A day after Clinton announced she would run for president -- and win -- her campaign's chief strategist Mark Penn sent a memo to reporters intended to offset an avalanche of articles emphasizing Clinton's high disapproval ratings and questioning her electability.

Clinton Enters ’08 Field, Fueling Race for Money
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton jumped into the 2008 presidential race yesterday, immediately squaring off against Senator Barack Obama and the rest of the Democratic field in what is effectively the party’s first primary, the competition for campaign donations.
“I’m in,” Mrs. Clinton said in an e-mail message to supporters early yesterday. “And I’m in to win.”
If successful, Mrs. Clinton, 59, would be the first female nominee of a major American political party, and she would become the first spouse of a former president to seek a return to the White House.
Her entrance into the race followed Mr. Obama’s by less than a week, and highlighted the urgency for her of not falling behind in the competition for money, especially in New York, her home turf, where the battle has already reached a fever pitch. It also set off rounds of e-mail messages and conference calls among both her allies and opponents.

Duncan Hnter intoduces bill to Pardon Border Agents
Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., introduced a bill to pardon the agents, joining a growing group of supporters of the men, including Reps. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., and Ted Poe, R-Texas.
"There's a compelling case that this was an extreme injustice," Hunter told FOXNews.com.

Hunter, a potential 2008 White House contender, said he collected 72 co-sponsors on a bill within 15 minutes after he introduced the measure on the House floor. A Kickoff for John Edwards 2.0

By PERRY BACON JR./WASHINGTON
If his first day is any indication, John Edwards will be running a very different kind of campaign than he did three years ago — one that just might help him stand out among the dozen presidential wannabes who will be all over Iowa and New Hampshire in the next several months.
If his first day is any indication, John Edwards will be running a very different kind of campaign than he did three years ago — one that just might help him stand out among the dozen presidential wannabes who will be all over Iowa and New Hampshire in the next several months.
Presidential announcements are usually highly ritualized affairs; the candidate goes back to the town where he was born, an adoring crowd cheers him, his wife brags about his greatness and he puts on his Sunday best to declare why he's running for the highest office in the land. "He didn't want to do it that way," said David Bonior, a former congressman from Michigan and one of Edwards' top advisers.

McCain Announces
McCain Hires Boston Political Operative
AP
BOSTON (Jan. 19) - Sen. John McCain has hired a Boston political operative with intimate knowledge of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and his changing political positions to work on his presidential exploratory committee. Rob Gray, president of Gray Media, served as the top political adviser to Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey last fall in her unsuccessful campaign to succeed Romney as governor. That campaign suffered, in part, as Romney adopted increasingly conservative positions that differed from the moderate platform he and Healey campaigned on in 2002.

McCain is without a doubt the front runner as of this date for the Republican Nomination for President. Unfortnately, he is not a conservative --- he is a RINO! In my opionon he has absolutely no chance of being elected President because he will alienate the conservative base of the Republican Party. I for one would NEVER vote for John McCain!
