Earlier primary could give state more of a role

Florida is like an ATM for presidential candidates.
They frequently drop into the state to pick up cash but rarely spend time with the state's voters during the party primary election season.
Florida money pays for television commercials on Boston stations to air in New Hampshire, campaign staff in Iowa, polling in South Carolina and all of the other accouterments of the modern political campaign. But Florida voters have not had much of a say in picking presidential nominees because the state's primary election often occurs after the choice is all but made.
